Introduction to Psychology
Collaboration Zebrastraat & Museum Dhondt-Dhaenens
As part of the cultural summer 2012 Ghent (TRACK, Sint-Jan), the MDD (Museum Dhondt-Dhaenens) and Zebrastraat have taken the common initiative to invite Adam Leech at Zebra Street during July and August.
The exhibition ‘Introduction to Psychology’ at Zebrastraat presents paintings and video installations such as ‘Standard Triangulation‘ and ‘Introduction to Neuropsychology’. Leech also presents several paintings from the ‘window’ and ‘mirror’ series.
In his most recent video installation ‘Introduction to Neuropsychology ’, Adam Leech plays a 'brain conductor' who leads the spectator through a mysterious and playful interaction with brain anatomy, affective neuroscience and memory. In his two-and three-dimensional work, Adam Leech reinterprets again and again the human figure. Represented by a collection of diverse but carefully chosen elements - windows, mirrors, buttons, diamonds - these elements are united by the explosive light that is so typical for the oeuvre of Adam Leech. In his works the fragmented elements of the image merge into a new coherent picture. In this way he reflects on our changing concepts of how humans conceive of themselves.
The Museum Dhondt-Dhaenens will be a partner in the development of the oeuvre and career of the artist. Besides exhibitions in its own museum spaces, the Museum Dhondt-Dhaenens regularly also acts as (co)producer for exhibitions on other sites.
Zebrastraat brings together culture and people. Ambitious artists, a changing mix of tenants and passers-by make this venue a unique meeting point. Thanks to the adjacent 'New Zebra’, the historic building gets a larger scope and the enriching experience of mixing culture, housing and economy continues.
