Oscar Jespers. Sculptures
27/01/2013 - 07/04/2013
Oscar Jespers (1887 - 1970) is considered one of the most important modernist sculptors in Belgium. It was mainly during the period 1920-1930 that his work reached a creative peak. Jespers processed modernist influences of international artists such as Brancusi and Zadkine into a personal visual language.
The exhibition at the Museum Dhondt-Dhaenens focuses on the work from the period 1917-1930 and shows Jespers’s sculptures in dialogue with the work of a number of like-minded friends and contemporaries (such as Constant Permeke, Edgard Tytgat, Floris Jespers and Gust De Smet) . There will also be a new catalogue available, made by José Boyens. (more info)
